Lyall Gorenstein, MD, FRCS, is a thoracic and cardiac surgeon with nearly 40 years of experience. Dr. Gorenstein brings his skill and expertise to Rockland Thoracic & Vascular Associates, with offices in Pomona, Goshen, and Fishkill, New York, as well as in Washington Heights in Manhattan, New York City, and in Englewood, New Jersey.
Dr. Gorenstein received his medical degree at the University of Toronto Medical School in 1983 and did his general surgery residency at the University of Toronto, Department of Surgery from 1983-1988. This was followed by a Fellowship at the Ontario Cancer Institute from 1988-1989 and a fellowship in Thoracic Surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, from 1989-1990. He completed his Fellowship training in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery from 1990-1992 at the University of Toronto. He is the chief of the division of Thoracic Surgery Montefiore-Nyack Hospital in Nyack, New York.
With a wide range of surgical training and clinical experience, Dr. Gorenstein’s areas of expertise include minimally invasive thoracic surgery, advanced lung cancer treatment, hyperhidrosis, gastroesophageal reflux, and esophageal cancer treatment.
Dr. Gorenstein has authored a number of articles that have appeared in professional publications like Surgical Oncology Clinician, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He belongs to several notable professional organizations, including the New York State Thoracic Society, the Rockland County Medical Society, the American College of Surgeons, the Medical Society of the State of New York, the General Thoracic Surgical Club, and the International Society of Sympathetic Surgery. He is a fellow of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Dr. Gorenstein has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in thoracic surgery every year since 2003.
